Buddhism, Bollywood and Business Can Strengthen India-Singapore Ties’: Piyush Goyal

Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said that stronger people-to-people engagement will be the foundation for expanding ties between India and Singapore.

Delivering the keynote address at the India-Singapore CEO Forum, Goyal — who holds the portfolios of Railways, Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, and Food & Public Distribution — remarked that “Buddhism, Bollywood and Business” are three areas that can serve as powerful connectors between the two nations.

He encouraged businesses to explore new avenues of cooperation and urged India’s youth to adopt innovative technologies that could strengthen bilateral collaboration.

The minister identified e-commerce, fintech, smart manufacturing, and healthcare as priority sectors where India presents a large and growing market for Singaporean firms. He also pointed out that the two countries are already working together in cybersecurity and disaster relief, and suggested that education and skill development could be further enhanced by leveraging Singapore’s expertise.

Goyal added that the evolving regional order in Asia will rest on the “strong shoulders” of both India and Singapore. He also underlined the reforms and initiatives announced in Budget 2021–22, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is to position India to engage with the global economy “from a position of strength” over the next decade.
